Choosing speakers for your pods does not need to be complicated. Start with the opening size, consider how you want the system to sound, and make sure the speakers and amplifier work well together.
Start with the speaker size listed on your pod’s product page, such as 6.5-inch or 8-inch. Then compare the speaker’s outside diameter, cutout diameter and mounting depth with the available space in the pod.
Speaker sizes are nominal and actual dimensions vary by manufacturer. A speaker described as 6.5 inches is not guaranteed to fit every 6.5-inch opening. Always review the individual speaker and pod dimensions before ordering.
If you are building a vehicle-specific system, we recommend choosing your speaker pods first. Once you know the pod configuration and speaker sizes, you can select speakers that fit the available openings and support your listening goals.
If you already own speakers, compare their physical dimensions with the pod specifications before placing your order.
Speaker Characteristics are shopping guides that help you narrow the catalog according to the experience you want:
Balanced Sound: A well-rounded choice for customers who want enjoyable everyday listening.
Clear Vocals: Selected to keep lyrics and spoken content crisp and present.
High Output: Designed for stronger projection and higher listening levels.
Strong Midbass: Selected for more punch and impact from drums and lower notes.
Weather-Resistant: Uses manufacturer-stated materials, construction or ratings intended for demanding outdoor environments.
These characteristics are based on published manufacturer specifications and product design. They are helpful starting points, not guarantees of how a speaker will perform in every vehicle or installation.
Many speaker-pod builds benefit from an external amplifier, especially when using multiple speakers or higher-power pro-audio speakers. An amplifier can provide the clean power needed to reach your desired listening level without forcing the source unit to do more than it was designed to handle.
Your amplifier should be selected according to the number of speakers, their impedance, RMS power rating and the way the system will be wired.
Use the speaker’s RMS power rating, not its maximum or peak rating, as the primary guide. The amplifier’s output at the final wired impedance should be reasonably matched to the combined RMS requirements of the connected speakers.
More advertised wattage does not automatically mean a better system. Correct wiring, tuning and gain settings are just as important as amplifier power.
RMS power is the more useful specification for comparing speakers and amplifiers because it describes sustained power handling or output.
Maximum or peak power represents short-duration capability and should not be used by itself to match an amplifier to a speaker. (TBH, you should disregard this value for most speakers).
Weather-resistant speakers are better suited to moisture, UV exposure and changing outdoor conditions, but they are not automatically waterproof. Protection varies by product.
Review the individual manufacturer rating and installation requirements, protect wiring connections and avoid exposing components beyond their published limits.
It depends on the product. Some speakers are priced individually, while others are sold as a pair or complete component set. The quantity is stated on each product page.
Check this before ordering so you purchase the correct number of speakers for every opening in your pod configuration.
