COMMON QUESTIONS

A typical amplifier installation requires power wire, ground wire, an inline fuse and fuse holder, remote turn-on wire, RCA or signal cables, speaker wire, terminals and installation hardware. The correct wire gauge depends on the amplifier’s current demand and the length of the wire run.

Choose the wire gauge based on the amplifier’s recommended power-wire size, total system power and cable length. A wire that is too small can restrict current and reduce amplifier performance. Check the amplifier specifications or contact us if you need help selecting the correct kit.

OFC copper wiring offers better conductivity and is our preferred choice for dependable amplifier installations. CCA wiring can be a lower-cost option, but it may require a larger cable size to carry the same current. Always match the wiring to the amplifier’s requirements.

The main power-wire fuse should be sized to protect the cable and support the amplifier’s current requirements. Start with the amplifier manufacturer’s recommendation and never use a fuse rated higher than the power wire can safely support. Install the main fuse close to the battery.

For most speaker-pod installations, quality 16-gauge or 14-gauge speaker wire is sufficient. Higher-powered speakers or longer wire runs may benefit from 12-gauge wire. Make sure the wire fits the speaker terminals and can be routed safely through the vehicle.

Sound deadening is not always required, but it can reduce panel vibration, rattles and unwanted resonance around the installation area. Applying it to nearby metal panels can help the speakers sound cleaner and make the completed installation feel more solid.

Use hardware that fits the pod’s mounting locations and securely supports the speaker without damaging the pod or vehicle panel. Our mounting hardware kits provide commonly needed screws, washers, nuts and related installation pieces for custom speaker-pod builds.

Speaker pods generally do not include the amplifier wiring, speaker wire, sound deadening or complete installation hardware required for the audio system. Review the individual product listing for included items, then add the wiring and accessories needed for your specific build.
