Start with the power-wire gauge recommended by your amplifier manufacturer. The correct size depends on the amplifier’s current demand and the length of the cable run. For most installations, 8-gauge works for smaller amplifiers, 4-gauge supports many moderate-power systems, and 1/0-gauge is preferred for high-power amplifiers or future upgrades.
Use the fuse size recommended by the amplifier manufacturer. If no recommendation is available, the amplifier’s onboard fuse rating can provide a useful starting point. The inline fuse protects the power cable and should be installed close to the battery—typically within 18 inches.

A Big-3 kit upgrades the primary charging-system connections between the alternator, battery, engine, and chassis. Larger cables can reduce voltage drop and improve current flow in higher-powered systems. It supports the existing charging system but does not increase the alternator’s output.
