Find the factory speaker locations and sizes for your Tacoma. Then see what your truck can support when you want more than a stock replacement.
Want more volume or speaker options? Tacoma-specific speaker pods can add mounting space where the factory locations limit your build. Match the pod and speaker dimensions to your exact truck before ordering.
Want better sound from your Tacoma? The question is whether you want to work within the factory speaker locations or build beyond them.
Factory speakers use locations chosen to fit behind the Tacoma’s original panels. They may be enough for everyday listening, but those locations limit speaker size, mounting depth, and how much room you have to build a louder system. Turning up the volume cannot overcome those physical limits.
There’s a huge selection of aftermarket speakers, and replacing worn factory speakers can be a worthwhile upgrade. But once you filter that selection to models that fit your Tacoma’s original locations, the choices narrow. A shallow door cavity may rule out the deeper, higher-output speakers you want. Finding a slim speaker with the sound and power handling you’re after can also mean spending more.
Best for: Improving the existing system while keeping the factory speaker locations.
Tacoma-specific speaker pods give you options the original panels may not: larger drivers, additional speakers, and multi-speaker layouts. Instead of choosing only from speakers that fit the factory cavity, you can plan a system around the pod’s available openings and depth. More speaker area and appropriately matched, higher-power components can deliver more output and cleaner sound at the volume you want when the system is properly powered and tuned.
Best for: A more ambitious front stage, more speaker capacity, or a system that needs to keep up with added bass.

What to know:
The 1996-2000 Tacoma did not come with any factory speaker location in the dash or A-pillar. The factory door location limits you to shallower 6.5″ speakers that are covered by the somewhat dense factory door panel grille, limiting sound output.
Custom Speaker Pods offers Front-door speaker pods in dual-woofer setups that can provide additional depth for high-output speakers.
What to know:
The 2001 Tacoma introduced slightly improved front stage speaker configurations by adding a larger 6×8 front door speaker and a 1.5″ door mounted tweeter. An aftermarket 6×8 speaker is harder to find, but can be replaced with a 5.25″ speaker using the appropriate adaptor.
Custom Speaker Pods offers multiple front door speaker pod options, as well as an upper-door mounted pod that provides room for larger tweeters or a midrange speaker.
What to know:
For 2005, a front door 6×9 main woofer and an auxiliary 2″ upper door speaker improved the factory sound output and made aftermarket replacement a bit easier, but sill requires special mounting brackets to get most speakers to fit properly.
Custom Speaker Pods can improve overall sound output by adding multiple speaker drivers into the front and rear door, as well as improving the front stage by offering a 3.5″ speaker mount over the factory upper-door speaker location.
What to know:
2009 speaker configurations stayed the same as the 2005, but keep in mind that the front door panel geometry changed. While this shouldn’t matter for factory speaker replacement, it is worth taking into consideration when shopping for Custom Speaker Pods for the 2009-2015 Tacoma.
What to know:
2016 introduced dash mounted 2.75″ speakers which greatly improved front stage output, but replacements are difficult to find and install. Front and rear door speaker sizes stayed the same as previous generations.
Front-door, rear-door and A-pillar speaker pods provide an easy way to improve the overall output of your stereo with simple installation.
Replacing the speakers in your Tacoma’s factory locations can improve an aging system. But the original panel, door cavity, window track, and grille still determine which speakers will fit. Many easy-fit replacements are designed to work on modest factory-radio power. Deeper, higher-output drivers may not clear the panel, and a speaker with a higher RMS rating will not reach its potential without suitable amplification.
Tacoma-specific pods create mounting options beyond the original openings. Depending on the pod, you can choose a larger driver or a multi-driver layout, such as multiple midrange speakers with dedicated tweeters. More cone area and more suitable speaker positions give a properly built system the potential for stronger output and clearer sound at higher volume.
Pro-audio drivers can bring high sensitivity and higher power-handling to that build. Each driver is designed to perform in its intended frequency band: a midrange is not a substitute for a tweeter or subwoofer. Pairing the drivers with the right amplifier, crossovers, and tuning lets the complete system cover a broad range while staying clean and controlled.
The difference: Factory-location replacements work within the original space. Speaker pods give you room to design a higher-output system around the speakers you actually want to run.

Match the pod to your Tacoma’s year, cab, and panel location. Check speaker diameter, cutout, mounting depth, wiring, and installation requirements before ordering. Speakers and amplifiers are selected separately unless a product listing says otherwise.
